Traditional Green Roofs in Norway

While visiting the Norsk Folkemuseum, where there are collections of traditional buildings dating back hundreds of years, we saw many instances of the traditional green roof. And of course we have pictures, like the house to the below. You can take a look at several of the roofs here. You'll see some close ups (as close as I could get) to see that they use birch bark as a lining material.

Thanks very much for posting the stuff on traditional Norwegian 'green' roofs. I'm actively interested in using a traditional design my green roof and was happy to see your blog.

Costs for high-tech systems, as I'm sure you know, can be very high. If roofs in Norway have survived for decades (centuries?) using super simple materials, there has to be a low-tech way to get good results.

My first roof will be on a small garden buildings, so the risk is relatively minor. I blog my own efforts here: http://gopermaculture.blogspot.com.

If you have any good sources for more detailed info on these traditional roofs, I'd be grateful for it.

Thanks again!
